In todays world of technology every business and individual wants to have its presence on the internet but there are many challenges in doing that some of the major ones are the setup and managing our own servers, scalability, security of that infrastructure etc. To solve these problems we can move towards the Cloud computing, but hey what exactly the cloud computing is?

Cloud computing is the on-demand availability of computer system resources, especially data storage and computing power, without direct active management by the user.

but operating and deployment of software on a cloud infrastructure can be a very tedious task for a developer guys so here comes the role for DevOps and what is DevOps now? is it a tool? or any new technology? no, the term DevOps can be describes as

It's a cultural practice in an organization by development team and operation team to use each others tools to smooth out the process of software delivery.

Terminologies of DevOps

The world of DevOps is full of jargons and sometimes these jargons can be very hard to understand for new folks so here are some common terminologies and there meaning in simple words to make your life little easier.

  • Provisioning - Server is ready with OS, software and networking.

  • Deployment - Adding and upgrading software on server.

  • Orchestration - Coordinated operation on multiple systems.

  • Configuration management - Managing server configuration via files such as RAM, space dependency software etc.

  • Imperative - Commands to produce desired state.

  • Declarative - Desired state is defined and tools will be achieve it.

  • Idempotent - Repeat execution and same result.

  • Blue green deployment - Identical deployment, used as switch.

  • Continues integration - Build and unit test at every check-in.

  • Continues delivery - Deploy on production live environment at every check-in.

  • Continues deployment - After unit testing, deploy changes to production in small batches.
